Buildings damaged, three hurt as earthquake shakes Peru
At least three people were injured and buildings damaged after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck Peru’s southern Ayacucho region on Thursday, according to BBC.
Peru’s Defence Minister Rafael Belaunde said 22 homes and six schools were damaged, though injuries were not serious. The quake struck near the settlement of Aniso at a depth of 62 miles, with tremors felt as far as Lima, 300 miles away.
Around 9,000 properties lost power. The earthquake follows recent deadly quakes in Colombia and Venezuela, which killed over 300 and 6,000 people respectively, as seismic activity continues across South America.
