Enzo Maresca explains Manchester City’s £450m spending spree in Arsenal title warning
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has defended the club’s £450 million summer spending, insisting significant investment was necessary to compete with Arsenal for the Premier League title. Speaking after City’s 1-0 victory over Coventry, Maresca highlighted Arsenal’s squad depth and their ability to rotate several players without weakening the team.
According to ESPN, City handed debuts to deadline-day arrivals Enzo Fernández and Iliman Ndiaye, while Ayyoub Bouaddi also featured. Fernández joined from Chelsea for a joint British-record £125 million fee, but Elliot Anderson stole the spotlight by earning man-of-the-match honours. Maresca praised Anderson’s performances since joining City and highlighted his eagerness to improve through individual video sessions. The victory maintained City’s perfect start under Maresca.
