2027: INEC urges court to dismiss Atiku’s suit over Tinubu’s certificates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar challenging President Bola Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
According to Vanguard, INEC described the suit as an abuse of judicial process and argued that Atiku lacked the legal standing to institute the action. The commission also maintained that the suit failed to disclose a reasonable cause of action.
INEC said it merely receives documents submitted by candidates and does not determine their authenticity. Atiku had alleged that Tinubu submitted a forged NYSC certificate to INEC and asked the court to disqualify him from the 2027 election.
