INEC integrates NIN to clean voter register ahead of 2027 general elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that it is using National Identification Numbers to audit, verify and clean Nigeria’s national voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the commission prepares to accredit a voter population rapidly approaching 100 million across 176,846 polling units.

According to PM News, Acting INEC Chairman Prof. Rhoda Gumus made the disclosure on Tuesday while receiving an African Union Pre-Election Needs Assessment Mission in Abuja.

“Through our strategic collaboration with the NIMC, we have systematically integrated NIN to audit, verify, and clean our national voter register to ensure that Africa’s largest democratic identity roll enters the 2027 polls with unassailable integrity,” Gumus said.

She cited Osun State’s recent governorship election as a successful proof of concept, recording over 94 per cent early morning logistical opening rates and seamless IReV portal performance.
