Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has confirmed he is a billionaire, but clarified that his wealth is denominated in naira, not US dollars. The former Anambra State governor made the disclosure during an interview with media personalities Adeola Fayehun and Rudolf Okonkwo.

Asked directly whether he was a billionaire, Obi said, “Yes, I’m a billionaire in Naira. But not in dollars. You know they usually measure billionaires in dollars. But in Naira, yes. Capital yes.” The clarification comes amid online criticism over his wife Margaret’s reported ₦200 million Hermès handbag, with the FCT minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, accusing Obi of projecting false prudence, according to Daily Post.
