Oba of Benin warns against ‘change for change’s sake’ as Tinubu’s campaign council visits
The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has warned Nigerians against pushing for a change in government “for the sake of change,” insisting genuine reason, not sentiment, should drive such demands. He spoke on Tuesday when he received President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council, led by Director-General Abdulaziz Yari, at the Benin Palace.
The monarch stressed the Benin throne remains non-partisan despite the visit, while also arguing that opposition parties need not always work against the ruling government. Yari cited GDP growth rising to 3.9 per cent and inflation falling to 15.9 per cent under Tinubu, as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi continue jostling for the presidency ahead of 2027, according to Legit.
