Coventry end 25-year Premier League wait with 1-0 win over Forest

Coventry City ended a 25-year wait for a Premier League victory on Saturday, securing a historic 1-0 win away to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, Punch reports.

It marked the club’s first top-flight win since April 2001, when they beat Bradford City 2-1, shortly before their relegation ended 34 consecutive seasons in the Premier League.

Jay Dasilva scored the decisive goal, finishing calmly after goalkeeper Carl Rushworth launched a long ball forward, handing Frank Lampard’s newly promoted side their first points and first goal of the season after four scoreless defeats to start the campaign.

Forest thought they had equalised late through Igor Jesus, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for a foul on Coventry defender Caleb Yirenkyi, while Bobby Thomas further denied the hosts with a crucial goal-line clearance.

The result lifts Coventry off the bottom of the table heading into the international break, while Forest suffered their second league defeat of the season, leaving Nuno Espírito Santo’s side with just one win from their opening five matches and mounting pressure to arrest the slide.
