Vinicius Jr apologises to Real Madrid teammates after Villarreal red card
Vinicius Jr has reportedly apologised to his Real Madrid teammates following his controversial red card in their 1-0 victory over Villarreal, with the Brazilian winger facing a possible suspension for El Clasico. According to Madrid Universal, the forward addressed his teammates in the dressing room after being dismissed for pulling Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair during Saturday’s encounter.
The report, citing El Chiringuito TV, states that Vinicius explained the incident was unintentional and resulted from an arm movement during a physical contest. The Brazilian also issued a public apology on Instagram, writing: “The joy continues… Sorry to my team and the fans,”
Vinicius could miss Real Madrid’s upcoming meeting with Barcelona if the disciplinary authorities impose a suspension of at least two matches. His reaction while leaving the pitch is also reportedly under scrutiny after he allegedly pushed a LaLiga employee near the VAR monitor. However, no additional punishment has been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid secured only their second clean sheet of the season against Villarreal, with Antonio Rudiger and Ibrahima Konate helping protect the narrow lead despite increased pressure following Vinicius’ dismissal. The disciplinary decision will determine the winger’s availability for the coming fixtures.
