Aircraft makes emergency landing in Abuja after losing door mid-air
A private aircraft operated by Triton Aviation made an emergency landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday after losing its door mid-air.
According to The Guardian, the CL60 aircraft, registered T7-SEI, was travelling from Abuja to Lagos when the incident occurred shortly after takeoff.
The aircraft had climbed to 3,000 feet, approximately three nautical miles from the airport, when its crew declared an emergency, transmitting “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday.”
Air traffic controllers immediately directed the aircraft back to Abuja, while emergency and medical personnel were placed on standby.
The aircraft landed safely on Runway 22 at approximately 4:34 p.m., about 14 minutes after the distress call.
Following the landing, controllers confirmed that the aircraft’s door was missing.
A viral video subsequently showed farmers who reportedly discovered the detached door on farmland in Abuja.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau confirmed the incident and deployed investigators to determine its cause.
The number of passengers aboard remains unknown.
