Arsenal fear Barcelona advantage in race for Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are increasingly concerned that Barcelona could thwart their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez following a key change in the Argentine’s representation. According to a report by Barca Universal, the World Cup winner has split with long-time agent Fernando Hidalgo and is close to appointing Pablo Barquero as his new representative.
Barquero previously orchestrated midfielder Rodri’s transfer to Barcelona, raising alarm bells at Arsenal that the agent’s strong Catalan ties could pave the way for Alvarez to realize his goal of playing at the Camp Nou. While Gunners boss Mikel Arteta considers Alvarez a primary target and Arsenal possess the financial firepower to execute a deal, the club recognizes that the player’s personal preference remains the biggest hurdle.
Alvarez’s proposed move to Barcelona fell through last summer, but his pending agent switch suggests he may be laying the groundwork for a renewed attempt to join the Spanish giants.
