Ex-Super Eagles coach Clemens Westerhof in critical condition after cancer diagnosis
Former Super Eagles coach Clemens Westerhof has been hospitalised in the Netherlands after being diagnosed with colon cancer, his wife, Lilian, has confirmed.
According to Daily Trust, the 86-year-old Dutch tactician was admitted to Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem on Wednesday and is reportedly in critical condition.
“The doctor just told us he has colon cancer and we are all devastated,” Lilian said.
“He is in a critical condition and emotional, talking about our two daughters.”
“He wants to live. We need help. We need prayers.”
Lilian disclosed that Westerhof, who also suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, urgently needs medical attention and family support.
“My husband urgently needs your prayers, love, and support during this very difficult time. Our family is going through an incredibly painful moment, and we are holding on to hope and faith.”
The family is reportedly considering transferring him to a hospital in Amsterdam or Germany.
Westerhof famously guided Nigeria to their first FIFA World Cup appearance and the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations title.
