Man spends life savings travelling 1,300 miles to meet dream woman, discovers she is AI
A 49-year-old Brazilian bricklayer, Edimar Rocha Martins, has been left heartbroken after spending his entire salary travelling 1,300 miles to meet a woman he believed was his romantic partner, only to discover she was generated by artificial intelligence.
According to The US Sun, Martins travelled from Imperatriz to Belo Horizonte after developing feelings for an online personality identified as Jéssica Oliveira, also known as Jessica Fazendeira.
The woman, whose social media account had over 300,000 followers, reportedly promised him accommodation, financial security and a new life on her farm.
“You’re going to live with me here on the farm,” the account told him.
Martins, who had been struggling with loneliness following his mother’s death, embarked on a 36-hour bus journey on October 9.
“I came in search of happiness,” he said.
However, after arriving on October 11, he searched unsuccessfully for the woman before discovering that she did not exist.
Left without money, Martins sought assistance from municipal authorities, who provided food, shelter facilities and transportation to Tocantins.
“Sometimes, loneliness at home ends up causing a lot of trouble in a person’s life.”
Reports indicate two other men experienced similar incidents within six months.
