Lagos waste crisis: Sanwo-Olu reportedly sacks LAWMA boss Gbadegesin, appoints Hassan Sanuth
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reportedly removed Muyiwa Gbadegesin as Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), appointing Dr Hassan Sanuth as his replacement amid persistent waste management challenges.
According to Daily Post, the development followed growing dissatisfaction with refuse accumulating along major roads, residential streets and drainage channels across Lagos.
Sources disclosed that Sanwo-Olu had asked Gbadegesin to resign over the weekend following his alleged failure to implement directives aimed at improving waste evacuation.
However, state authorities had yet to officially confirm the leadership change.
Sanuth previously served as Director of Sanitation Services in the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
The reported replacement comes weeks after Sanwo-Olu declared a state of emergency on waste management following an inspection of the Olusosun dumpsite in Ojota.
Despite government interventions, residents in several communities have continued complaining about uncollected refuse, raising concerns over sanitation and public health across Lagos State.
