Nigeria confirms Ebola case in Abuja, identifies 44 possible contacts
The Federal Government has confirmed an Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, identifying 44 close contacts as health authorities intensify efforts to prevent further transmission.
According to The PUNCH, Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate announced the development on Tuesday, October 20, following laboratory confirmation.
“A woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda, was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where she received treatment for several days before the diagnosis was confirmed,” the statement noted.
The patient is currently isolated and receiving medical treatment.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has commenced contact tracing, while surveillance and infection prevention measures have been strengthened.
Healthcare facilities nationwide have been directed to remain vigilant and report suspected cases immediately.
Authorities urged Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene, avoid contact with suspected patients’ bodily fluids and cooperate with public health officials.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities monitor potential exposures.
