Foreigner beaten to death by angry mob in South Africa
A mob of approximately 50 people has beaten a foreign national to death in Durban, South Africa, amid growing tensions and protests against migrants.
According to Vanguard, citing AFP, police confirmed that the attack occurred on Thursday in Durban’s city centre during a demonstration.
Authorities said two men initially approached the victim, believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, before the crowd attacked him.
“It is further alleged that the victim was then assaulted by a group of about 50 people and he was declared dead at the scene,” police stated.
The victim’s nationality and the motive behind the killing remain unknown.
Durban has witnessed repeated anti-migrant demonstrations, with violence and looting escalating in recent weeks.
Two weeks earlier, soldiers were deployed after riots targeting foreign nationals left businesses damaged and 14 vehicles set ablaze.
The latest killing comes amid continued tensions over immigration, following protests that forced thousands of foreign nationals to flee.
