Shettima: I respect Obi, but he has nothing meaningful to offer Nigerians
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has criticised former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, saying the opposition politician has nothing to offer Nigerians beyond quoting economic statistics.
According to The Sun, Shettima made the remarks on Monday in Abuja while defending President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies.
“I respect Peter Obi for having the courage to say he’s not going to restore the petrol subsidy, but beyond spouting some statistics, Mr Peter Obi has absolutely nothing to offer,” Shettima said.
“He was surviving on various statistics. So, I call on you, the crème de la crème of the Nigerian economic community, to support us,” he added.
The Vice-President defended the subsidy removal, comparing petrol prices across neighbouring countries.
He cited prices of N1,148.36 in Niger, N1,729.29 in Benin and N1,945.50 in Cameroon, against Nigeria’s N1,390.
Shettima maintained that the policy was necessary to address economic challenges despite widespread criticism over rising living costs.
