At least 30 dead as two high-speed trains collide in Spain’s Toledo province, local media report
At least 30 people have been killed after two high-speed trains carrying approximately 500 passengers collided in Spain’s Toledo province on Wednesday morning.
According to CNN, Spanish newspaper El País reported the death toll citing the Castilla-La Mancha regional government, with officials warning the number of casualties is expected to rise.
The collision occurred along the key rail route connecting Madrid to Seville, in central Spain south of the capital. Railway infrastructure manager ADIF confirmed that high-speed rail service linking the Madrid region with Andalusia has been suspended following the incident. Spain’s Prime Minister described the tragedy as a “serious” crash as emergency services responded to the scene.
This marks the third major rail disaster in Spain in 2026, following a deadly collision near Córdoba in January and a commuter train derailment near Barcelona shortly after.
