Harry Kane admits knighthood would feel ‘weird’ after Ballon d’Or triumph
England captain Harry Kane has admitted that receiving a knighthood would be a tremendous honour, although being addressed as Sir Harry Kane would take some getting used to following his Ballon d’Or triumph.
According to The Independent, the Bayern Munich striker discussed the possibility after his side’s DFB-Pokal victory against Magdeburg. “I wouldn’t say no to it, that’s for sure.”If it happens it’ll be incredible, and something I’ll be massively proud of. But I don’t want to get too carried away.”
Asked about being called Sir Harry, Kane added: “It would sound good, but I’d feel weird everyone calling me Sir. So we’ll just keep it as Harry for now.”
The 33-year-old won the Ballon d’Or after scoring 73 goals across last season, becoming the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001. A Downing Street spokeswoman congratulated Kane but declined to speculate on a potential knighthood, saying the honours process should not be pre-empted.
Kane described the period following his achievement as a whirlwind, saying he was pleased to return to normality and feel at home at Bayern.
