Premier League explains unusual one-match Sunday schedule for this weekend
The Premier League will stage only one match on Sunday, November 1, with Liverpool hosting Arsenal at 4:30pm GMT after a fixture rearrangement left eight games scheduled for Saturday.
According to The Athletic, Aston Villa’s meeting with Fulham was initially scheduled for Sunday but moved to Saturday, October 31, at 8pm GMT. The change was made to accommodate Villa’s Champions League trip to Barcelona on Tuesday, November 3, helping the club avoid playing two matches within 60 hours.
The Premier League adjusts its schedule around European commitments to reduce congestion for participating clubs. Teams competing in the Europa League and Conference League on Thursdays can also have domestic fixtures moved to Sunday or Monday.
The original broadcast selections, announced on August 17, included two Sunday fixtures before Villa’s match was rescheduled following the publication of the Champions League calendar on August 29.
Saturday’s programme features eight matches, including Chelsea against Manchester United and Manchester City versus Brighton. Newcastle will host Everton on Monday, November 2, completing the gameweek. The unusual schedule leaves Liverpool versus Arsenal as the weekend’s sole Sunday Premier League fixture.
