A 15-year-old boy, Javits Frimpong, has died after being shot in the abdomen while walking near a school in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday morning, police said.

The NYPD said he was shot once just before 9:30 a.m. near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont section, according to CBS News New York. He was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Police are looking for three teenage boys aged 16 to 18, last seen wearing all black clothing and blue surgical masks. It is unclear what led to the shooting.

His father, Thomas Frimpong, 60, said his son, who came to the U.S. from Ghana a year ago, had recently been in a fight with two boys who were later suspended. “It’s not easy for me. it’s not easy for me. He’s my everything,” he said.

He said his son later opened up about being bullied: “Dad, any time I am going to lunch, that guy keep on bullying me.”

Frimpong called on the suspects to turn themselves in. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
