Panic as terrorists invade Kebbi communities, kill police inspector, 11 others
Suspected Lakurawa and Mamudawa terrorists have killed 12 people, including a police inspector, during attacks on several riverine communities in Kebbi State.
According to Daily Trust, the attacks occurred between October 22 and 28, 2026, in Karwa, Kestu, Waiwayi and surrounding communities in Besse and Shanga.
Residents said the attackers burnt houses, looted properties and forced families to flee their homes.
Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman confirmed the attacks, explaining that the casualties occurred across several communities.
“Although the joint security teams repelled the attacks, seven people unfortunately lost their lives, including a police inspector,” he said.
However, some residents claimed the death toll exceeded 23, contradicting the police figure.
Witnesses said the gunmen moved along the River Niger, attacking settlements and destroying property.
Usman disclosed that tactical teams had been deployed to restore security.
“The police have launched investigation into the attack and is following up on the attackers,” he said.
Authorities said normalcy was gradually returning.
