US approves $2.1bn missile sale to Ukraine after Zelensky complains of delays
The United States has approved a proposed $2.1 billion sale of 500 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) missiles to Ukraine to strengthen its air defence capabilities.
According to Daily Post, the State Department announced the approval on Friday, October 30, following Kyiv’s request for missiles, spare parts and related equipment.
The proposed purchase will be financed through contributions from Canada, Germany and Norway, alongside funds from the European Union’s Ukraine Support Loan.
Washington said the deal would strengthen Ukraine’s ability to counter current and future aerial threats.
Lockheed Martin will serve as the principal contractor, while the transaction remains subject to congressional review.
The announcement follows complaints by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over delays in American military assistance.
Zelensky recently condemned intensified Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure and urged Washington to accelerate weapons deliveries.
The missiles are expected to support Ukraine’s existing Patriot systems as the war with Russia continues.
