Ilhan Omar repeatedly altered name on 2009 marriage application, report reveals

US Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is facing renewed scrutiny after a 2009 marriage application reportedly revealed multiple alterations to her name during her marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

According to the Daily Mail, the document obtained from Hennepin County, Minnesota, showed Omar initially wrote her surname as “Omar,” changed it to “Elmi,” and subsequently reverted to “Omar.”

Her middle name, “Abdullahi,” was also reportedly crossed out and rewritten.

The revelations come amid longstanding allegations that Omar married Elmi, a British citizen, to facilitate immigration benefits.

Omar has repeatedly denied the allegations, describing them as politically motivated conspiracy theories.

Former Democratic state representative Joe Radinovich questioned her explanations.

“Democrats should understand that the allegation is almost certainly true – whatever conclusion they draw from that point could vary – and her denials calling it a right-wing, Islamophobic or racist conspiracy are almost certainly not,” Radinovich wrote.

Meanwhile, Republican congressional candidate John Nagel demanded that Omar release her immigration records and undergo DNA testing.

“It would be very simple if you are innocent to be able to come up with the paperwork, do the DNA sample,” Nagel said.

The report also stated that federal investigators searched Omar’s Washington home on October 12 as part of an immigration-related investigation.

Omar has denied wrongdoing, accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement against political opponents.

No criminal charges have been announced against her, and the document alterations do not establish any familial relationship between Omar and Elmi.
