NCDC: Adamawa suspected Ebola cases negative after two rounds of testing
Two suspected Ebola Virus Disease cases identified in Yola, Adamawa State, have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has said, according to the Peoples Gazette.
NCDC Director-General, Jide Idris, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the agency was working with the Adamawa Government to investigate the cases.
He said the Adamawa Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received the report in the early hours of October 30, after two individuals showed symptoms suggestive of Ebola. They were immediately isolated and samples collected.
Mr Idris confirmed there was currently no laboratory-confirmed case in Adamawa, adding that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remained Nigeria’s only confirmed Ebola case.
He commended the state’s health commissioner and his team for their proactive response, and urged Nigerians to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information and rely on official channels.
The NCDC chief advised anyone with fever, severe weakness, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding to seek immediate medical attention and avoid self-medication.
