Aston Villa withdraw legal threat against Jamie Carragher after Pundit’s apology
Aston Villa have reportedly withdrawn their threat of legal action against Jamie Carragher following the former Liverpool defender’s public apology over controversial comments about the club and Manchester United.
The dispute began after Carragher suggested on the Stick to Football podcast that Unai Emery would jump at the opportunity to manage Manchester United, describing the Old Trafford club as a bigger institution than Villa.
He also angered Villa supporters by telling them to “shut the **** up Villa fans” during the discussion. However, the pundit subsequently apologised, admitting his choice of words was inappropriate.
“I’d like to apologise to Aston Villa, the owners & their fans. My language this week was clumsy and wrong. I can assure Villa fans it was tongue in cheek but I can understand it’s not come across that way, so apologies.”
According to GOAL, citing BirminghamLive, Villa have now dropped their legal threat following the apology. The development comes ahead of Sunday’s meeting between Villa and Manchester United at Old Trafford.
