Obi’s camp dismisses viral report he broke his neck in gym

Peter Obi’s camp has dismissed a viral social media report claiming that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate broke his neck in a gym and was hospitalised, Legit.ng reports.

The posts, shared with photographs, claimed the former Anambra State governor had been admitted to hospital after the incident.

Speaking to The Punch on Sunday, Obi’s spokesman, Idris Zekeri, said the report was completely false.

“There is zero iota of truth in that rumour. No such thing happened,” he said.

Zekeri said the images were doctored and accused political rivals of making up the story ahead of the 2027 election.

He said he was with Obi at about 7am on Sunday, before Obi boarded a flight for an international engagement, and that Obi was in good health.

Zekeri declined to name Obi’s destination, saying only that it was a long-haul flight of about 16 hours.

Obi became the NDC candidate in May after leaving the African Democratic Congress.
