Ondo police uncover counterfeit dollar-printing hideout, recover three bags of fake notes
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have raided a suspected counterfeit dollar-printing hideout in Kiniso Village, via Ajue, Odigbo Local Government Area, Channels Television reports.
One suspect, Peter Desmond, was arrested, and three bags of suspected fake US dollar notes were recovered.
Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said in a statement in Akure on Tuesday that Yusuf Nasiru of Sabo, Okitipupa, reported on October 28 that two men, Peter Desmond and Olami Toro, both of Ode-Irele, approached his shop on October 25 to exchange dollars for naira.
Nasiru said he handed them $6,000, about ₦8.6 million, but the men returned the notes, claiming insufficient funds, and left. He later discovered the returned notes were counterfeit.
Okitipupa police tracked Desmond through intelligence to Kiniso and raided the premises on October 29; other occupants escaped through the perimeter fence.
A small wooden box was also recovered as an exhibit.
Jimoh said the suspect was assisting police with useful information for further investigation.
