Barcelona president Joan Laporta has received fresh backing in his ambition to bring the 2030 FIFA World Cup final to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

According to Barca Universal, Laporta has joined forces with Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni and Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan to strengthen the city’s bid.

Speaking during an event featuring the World Cup trophy at city hall, Laporta expressed optimism about Barcelona’s chances.

“We are optimistic and hope that it happens,” the Barcelona president declared. Collboni also backed the proposal, revealing his desire to see the final played at Camp Nou on July 21, 2030.

“We would love July 21, 2030, the day of the World Cup final, to be at Camp Nou. And for Spain’s captain to lift the trophy here again,” the mayor explained.

However, Barcelona face competition from Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu and Morocco’s proposed Grand Stade Hassan II. The 2030 tournament will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with the final venue yet to be decided.
