Peter Obi’s wife is my child’s godmother, we’re still friends — Soludo

Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo has confirmed that Peter Obi’s wife is his child’s godmother while his own wife is godmother to Obi’s daughter, insisting their families remain close despite political differences.

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has confirmed that Margaret Obi, wife of former governor Peter Obi, is the godmother of one of his children.

According to Vanguard, Soludo disclosed this during an interview with BBC News Igbo on Monday, November 2, 2026.

“Peter Obi and I are good friends. Our two families are on good terms. His wife was the godmother of my child at baptism, and my wife was the godmother of his child at confirmation,” he said.

The governor explained that their political disagreements had not affected their longstanding friendship.

“I have a different vision of who should be governor of Anambra State. I am contesting, and he supported whoever he felt should be governor. I prevailed by the grace of God, and I don’t hold it against him,” Soludo said.

His clarification follows a September controversy over the godparent relationship, which generated public debate between supporters of both politicians.
