N70,000 transport allowance: PENGASSAN pleads with Ajaero, Osifo to make peace, unify labour
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has urged NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo to resolve their differences in the interest of workers, Vanguard reports.
The appeal follows a rift between the two labour centres over the Federal Government’s proposed N70,000 transport allowance, which the TUC rejected.
PENGASSAN President Agoro, speaking at the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN) conference in Lagos, warned that the division could weaken labour’s bargaining power.
“We don’t normally come with problems alone; we always like to prepare solutions. I think it is time for both TUC and NLC to sit down and have a Memorandum of Understanding on how we want this relationship to work,” he said.
Agoro, who is also TUC Chairman in Oyo State, cited his partnership with the state’s NLC Chairman, Kayode Martins, as a model.
“It will be very difficult for anyone to take one of us and go alone,” he said.
