Bomb threats force diversion of multiple European flights
Multiple flights in Europe made emergency landings on Thursday after being diverted over bomb threats, MS NOW reports.
At least eight flights from Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Madrid, Milan and Warsaw were targeted, with inspections so far finding no hazardous or suspicious materials.
A Dublin-Rome flight was diverted and landed safely at a military air base in Evreux, Normandy, with all 151 passengers and six crew safe, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu’s office said.
In Prague, Czech police prepared for the landing of four planes after a threat of explosives on board, saying “all necessary security measures have been activated.”
Three Ryanair flights bound for Sofia, Bulgaria, made emergency landings, while LOT, Wizz Air and Finnair flights landed at their destinations without incident.
The incidents followed hoax bomb threats earlier this week that prompted searches, diversions and, in one case, an Italian air force escort.
Such threats come amid heightened geopolitical tensions and warnings by authorities of widespread hybrid threats.
