War Secretary Hegseth seeks $350bn for military, hits back at impeachment push
War Secretary Pete Hegseth has urged Congress to approve at least $350 billion in defence funding while dismissing efforts to impeach him, Fox News reported.
“We need every vote from every patriotic member of Congress,” Hegseth said in a video posted to X on Thursday.
The impeachment push is led by Rep. Thomas Massie, who introduced eight articles in September accusing Hegseth of violating congressional war powers during the Iran conflict.
Massie, who lost his Republican primary in May, plans to renew the effort when Congress returns next week.
“A disgruntled, defeated congressman along with all his Democrat allies, has also dropped sham articles of impeachment against yours truly,” Hegseth said.
He defended his Pentagon overhaul, saying: “We ended the weird and the woke and elevated patriots in strength.”
President Donald Trump told ABC News he intends to keep Hegseth in his Cabinet despite the push.
Hegseth closed with a message to troops: “Don’t blink. Ignore the noise. Never hesitate.”
