African health ministers back WHO’s 10-year medical product regulation strategy

African health ministers have endorsed the Africa Health Workforce Agenda 2026–2035, committing to train, employ and retain three million additional health workers by 2035, according to Tribune Online.

The move addresses a shortage that could exceed six million workers without action, even as Africa currently has only 46 per cent of its needed workforce and roughly one million trained professionals remain unemployed. WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Yakub Janabi, said training alone is insufficient without job creation and support systems.

The plan requires an additional $4–6 per person annually but could yield up to $10 in economic returns per dollar invested.
