AI companies hyping panic to cover slowing growth…
Investor Michael Burry has accused leading artificial intelligence companies of exaggerating safety concerns to mask slowing growth in the sector. According to Mediaite, Burry said on X that firms including OpenAI and Anthropic calling for a slowdown were acting out of self-interest, arguing large language models are not artificial general intelligence and that rising competition threatens established players.
He suggested warnings about AI risks serve as hype ahead of planned IPOs and as cover for weakening growth. His comments followed similar remarks from President Donald Trump, who said strong presidential oversight, not external guardrails, was sufficient to manage AI. The debate follows a former Anthropic researcher’s resignation over safety concerns last week.
