Air Force major who demanded Trump’s impeachment held in solitary confinement
A United States Air Force major who publicly demanded President Donald Trump’s impeachment in uniform has spent nearly two months in solitary confinement awaiting court-martial, The Gateway Pundit reports.
Major Jason Watson, 40, has been held since August 18. Capitol Police arrested him on July 1 for crowding, obstructing and incommoding after he refused orders to stop demonstrating in a restricted area, holding a sign reading “Impeach. Convict. Remove.”
He faces 10 alleged violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
His attorney, Mutimer, told CNN on October 9 that the conditions could be a “cruel and unusual form of punishment.”
“Even if he gets an hour to eat or to exercise, he is alone,” Mutimer said.
Hearing officer Maj. Joshua Wendell said at a September 18 hearing: “He was placed in confinement because of the law, which puts him in solitary confinement.”
His lawyers want a special court-martial, citing ex-Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who spent nine days in pretrial confinement.
