Akpabio petitions DSS over fake anti-northern statement
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Department of State Services over a fake anti-northern statement circulating on social media and falsely attributed to him.
Daily Post reports that the petition, filed by his Chief of Staff Chinedu Akubueze, describes the statement as “manifestly false, inflammatory and dangerously divisive,” alleging Akpabio warned northerners they would “suffer the most” if President Tinubu lost the election.
Akpabio’s office insisted no evidence exists linking him to the claim, describing it as deliberately fabricated to incite public anger.
The petition named several Facebook users who allegedly shared the graphic early, urging the DSS to investigate their devices and communications without presuming them guilty.
The development comes amid intensifying social media activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
