Alleged drug trafficking: US judge refuses Tinubu, DOJ’s joint bid to block file disclosure

President Bola Tinubu’s legal team has filed a notice of joinder in a US federal court seeking to delay the release of records relating to drug trafficking allegations — joining the Department of Justice’s request for a 10-day extension — but US District Judge Beryl Howell denied the application, according to lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, retained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Tribune reports that the case — Aaron Greenspan v. Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, Civil Action No. 23-1816 — has been pending over three years and involves records linked to a 1993 court order forfeiting $460,000 from an account in Tinubu’s name, which his lawyers describe as a civil action against funds rather than a criminal case against Tinubu personally. Tinubu has consistently denied wrongdoing.
