Ander Herrera takes pay cut to play for free at boyhood club Zaragoza

Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has made an extraordinary return to boyhood club Real Zaragoza, agreeing to play without receiving a salary. The 37-year-old rejoined the Spanish side from Boca Juniors after 15 years away, having also represented Athletic Club and Paris Saint-Germain during his career.

According to BBC Sport, Herrera will donate the salary he could have earned to Zaragoza’s foundation as he seeks to help the club recover from its recent struggles in Spain’s third tier. The veteran midfielder described the move as a lifelong dream and hopes his experience can help Zaragoza return to Spanish football’s higher levels.
