Andy Carroll opens up on ‘traumatic’ sexual assault by celebrity mate

Former England striker Andy Carroll has revealed that he was sexually assaulted by a man he described as a “celebrity mate” at his home in 2021. Writing in his new autobiography, Owning It, Carroll said the incident was “traumatic” and “scary”, and explained that he initially considered leaving the experience out of the book.

According to the Daily Express, Carroll said he had allowed the man to stay overnight after a match before being woken by an attempted assault. He threw the man out, contacted police and later gave evidence. The attacker denied the allegations but was convicted, jailed for three years and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
