APC secretary, Sowore clash over request to launch campaign at Aso Villa
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore have exchanged criticisms over plans to inaugurate the AAC presidential campaign council at Aso Villa.
According to PUNCH, the AAC requested permission to hold the event at the Presidential Villa on November 11, alongside logistical support.
Reacting during a Channels Television interview, Basiru dismissed Sowore’s political relevance, describing him as a “skit maker” and “comedian”.
Sowore responded on X, recalling their involvement in pro-democracy activism during Nigeria’s military era.
“The struggle for justice, democracy, freedom and the preservation of human dignity is neither skit-making nor comedy,” he said.
He accused Basiru of abandoning the principles they previously defended while opposing military dictatorship.
Sowore also rejected suggestions that his performance in the 2023 presidential election undermined his political credibility.
The disagreement has highlighted tensions between the ruling party and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
