Europe’s regulators query GOOGLE over outage that hit banks…
European financial regulators have launched inquiries into Google following a cloud computing outage that disrupted banking services for millions of customers across Europe.
According to Reuters, the disruption occurred on Tuesday, affecting major financial institutions, including Revolut, Lloyds and HSBC.
The European Banking Authority said it had contacted Google Cloud to investigate the incident and assess its impact on financial institutions.
Google attributed the outage to a power-related incident at a London facility.
“We have resolved a disruption to Google Cloud services at a third-party facility in our europe-west2 cloud region due to a power event. Services have been restored. We will update our public status dashboard with an analysis.”
Revolut reported disruptions to account access, card payments and cash withdrawals, but confirmed that customers’ funds and data remained secure.
Meanwhile, British lawmakers have requested information from financial regulators regarding the outage’s consequences.
The incident represents an early test of Europe’s stricter oversight of critical technology providers.
