Apple follows Google in renaming Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’
Apple has adopted US President Donald Trump’s renaming of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” on Apple Maps, according to Euronews, following Google’s earlier move.
The change, which shows the new name only to US users while Canadians still see “Lake Ontario,” came after Trump’s executive order and the collapse of US-Canada trade talks following new 50% tariffs on Canadian goods.
Google faced backlash for the switch, while MapQuest has refused to rename the lake, boosting its US App Store ranking. Ontario Premier Doug Ford insisted the lake “will still be called Lake Ontario” long after Trump.
