Apple’s first foldable iPhone nears launch after decade of work

Apple is set to unveil its first foldable iPhone on Wednesday, capping a project a decade in the making and marking the biggest design shift in the device’s nearly 20-year history.

Bloomberg reports that former CEO Tim Cook, now executive chairman, pushed the project after observing widespread adoption of foldable phones in Asia, though internal teams had studied the technology even earlier.

The launch will also mark new CEO John Ternus’s debut leading a major product event.

Apple has reportedly considered pricing the device between $1,999 and $2,199, with larger storage variants nearing $3,000.

The phone will feature a 7.8-inch interior display and a titanium-aluminium hinge designed to minimise the crease common in rival foldables from Samsung and Google.
