UK, France join 10 other nations in supporting Israeli settlement sanctions
Britain has announced sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including a ban on goods produced in the settlements, according to Aljazeera, as London steps up pressure over Israel’s settlement policy.
The measures, announced by Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, also restrict services linked to settlement expansion, including construction, infrastructure, financial and real-estate activities. Britain said the move was aimed at addressing the expansion of settlements and violence against Palestinians.
The announcement comes alongside similar measures by France and Canada, reflecting growing concern among Israel’s allies over developments in the occupied territory. The UK said the restrictions were intended to protect the prospects of a two-state solution.
The sanctions mark a significant shift in Britain’s approach to Israeli settlements.
