Argentine sports executives admit bribing FIFA official
Two Argentine sports marketing executives have admitted paying bribes to international football officials to secure lucrative media rights, according to US prosecutors.
The executives, Hugo Jinkis and his son, Mariano Jinkis, were charged following a 2015 corruption investigation that shook FIFA and football governing bodies across the Americas.
According to PUNCH Newspapers, co-owners of Argentine sports marketing company, Full Play, admitted paying tens of millions of dollars in commercial bribes to secure media and marketing rights for tournaments including World Cup qualifiers and the Copa America.
Under a deal with US prosecutors, the fraud charges will be dropped, while the Jinkises will forfeit $50 million, bringing a major development in the long-running FIFA corruption scandal to the fore.
