Army Captain accused of sexually abusing deaf 13-year-old step-niece , impregnating her in Taraba

A serving Nigerian Army officer, Captain Etim Essien, has been accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old deaf and non-speaking girl, impregnating her and fathering a child with her in Taraba State, according to SaharaReporters.

The allegation has prompted interventions by the Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development and the National Human Rights Commission. The girl reportedly lived with Essien and his wife, Blessing, who has been arrested and remanded with the baby.

Taraba Commissioner Mary Sinjen said the government had formally notified the Nigerian Army, which is expected to investigate the allegations. The minor is currently with her parents under government monitoring.
