ASUU declares indefinite strike over Lagos varsities’ failure to meet demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike at three Lagos State-owned universities over the state government’s failure to meet its demands, Premium Times reports.

The affected institutions are LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH. According to the report, the ASUU Joint Campus Group announced the action after a 14-day ultimatum issued on August 31 expired, with a final warning on September 10 and a September 13 deadline both passing without dialogue.

The union is demanding the domestication of the December 2025 federal agreement, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and welfare provisions for academic staff.

ASUU said it took the decision “with a heavy heart,” appealing to students, parents and stakeholders for support while insisting the strike targets the state government, not university management.

The union maintained the action will persist until Lagos signs and fully implements the outstanding provisions, leaving the academic calendar in limbo until then.
