Atiku criticises Tinubu over lavish SUV gifts to APC youth leaders amid economic hardship

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the distribution of luxury sport utility vehicles (SUVs) to youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid worsening economic hardship in Nigeria.

According to Sahara reporters , Atiku condemned the development, questioning the government’s priorities at a time when millions of Nigerians are struggling with rising living costs.

The former vice president argued that distributing expensive vehicles to political loyalists while ordinary citizens battle hunger reflects misplaced priorities.

In a statement issued by his campaign spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku demanded transparency over the funding of the vehicles, reportedly valued at ₦150 million each.

He described the gifts as a “grotesque spectacle of executive excess” and a “brazen insult” to struggling Nigerians.

Atiku also questioned whether the vehicles were purchased with private donations or public resources.

He vowed to investigate any illegal expenditure if elected president in 2027.
