Auditor-General: Tinubu government can’t prove N33.75bn cash transfers reached 3m beneficiaries

Nigeria’s Auditor-General has revealed that the Tinubu administration cannot prove that N33.75 billion in cash transfers reached 3,295,207 registered households, according to a report by Sahara Reporters. The Auditor-General’s 2024 Annual Report found that payment vouchers lacked full beneficiary details, while Remita statements needed to verify recipients were never presented, hindering authentication.

Auditors said National Cash Transfer Office accounts staff obstructed access to records, raising fears of payments to fictitious beneficiaries. The report also flagged N36.74 billion paid without prepayment audits, N4.616 billion lacking vouchers, and N350.18 million unaccounted for. NCTO management failed to respond to any of the eight queries raised, prompting Atiku Abubakar to demand reconciled, verified records.
