Sambisa Forest as big as Belgium, makes rescue difficult — Defence Minister
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has blamed the vast size and difficult terrain of the Sambisa Forest for delays in rescuing victims kidnapped by terrorists.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today,as reported by Daily Post, Musa said security forces had rescued many abductees but often struggled to locate kidnappers who quickly disappear into forests.
“Sambisa Forest is as big as Belgium, as a country,” he said, stressing that terrorists exploit the terrain to evade troops.
Musa said security agencies were intensifying operations, including restricting escape routes and monitoring suspicious financial transactions linked to ransom payments.
